Gear Update, March 2024

This month was big for gear.

New stuff

I finally pulled the trigger on a Fujifilm X-T30 II after much waffling. I’m in love with it so far. It’s so much lighter, smaller, and nicer to hold than my older camera, a Nikon D3400. I’m loving having a 6k sensor. I’ve got a passive lens adapter for my Nikon telephoto lens and a Fuji X-mount 18-55mm lens. I’ve got a 35mm prime on order from 7artisans. I’m trying to make this camera as frictionless as possible, so that I’ll do more photography.

Speaking of friction, today I picked up a Peak Design Slide Lite, which is an awesome camera strap. I’m loving it so far. I’ve been wearing the camera every day, and shooting lots of photos from the bike, of the bike, and about the bike. I got the camera during my Chicago trip, so I’ll post those photos soon.

Pro tip: If you have a problem with a Peak Design product, take it to one of their stores. I’ve always had no-questions-asked replacements at stores, and annoying experiences online.

I also got a Zoon H1n audio recorder, which I plan to use to record transit traction motor sounds through an induction mic (more on that soonish). In the mean time, I’ve been using it to record train sounds (like the P42 compressor boowomp).

Old stuff

With the arrival of my X-T30, I’m retiring my D3400 (still getting used, just not by me).

Soon

The parts for my GPS Doohickey project arrived today (more on that soon).

I’ve got a Peak Design sling bag on the way too. I got the 3L in light grey (I think they call it ash.)
